Directions
Surface Preparation
-
Surface must be dry, clean, and free of dirt, grease, glue, and existing coatings before staining.
-
Sand the wood in the direction of the grain using fine-grit sandpaper (#150) until smooth.
-
Remove all sanding dust.
-
Pre Stain conditioner Isn’t necessary, but if you choose to condition the wood before applying the stain, the clear stain can be used as the pre stain conditioner by applying one coat of clear stain before applying the Tan Wash.
Product Preparation and Color Testing
Always test stain on an inconspicuous area of the wood to verify desired color.
- Stir stain thoroughly before and occasionally during use. The Wash color can be applied directly to the wood for a more opaque look , or the wash color can be mixed with the supplied clear stain in any desired ratio to achieve the desired clarity.
- Always test stain on an inconspicuous area of the wood to verify desired color.
Stain Application
- Apply stain in the direction of the grain with a brush or clean cloth.
- Allow the stain to penetrate 5 minutes to achieve the desired color.
- The more time the stain is allowed to penetrate, the richer and darker the color will be.
- Remove stain that has not absorbed into the wood with a clean cloth. Wipe in the direction of the grain, while blending light and dark areas to obtain a uniform color.
- To darken the color, apply a second coat after 2 hours, repeating directions above.
- Do not sand between coats of stain.
Clear Finish Application
- Allow the stain to dry for a minimum of 6 hours (dry time may be extended due to high humidity, low temperatures, or inadequate ventilation).
- Complete your project by applying a Premium Clear Protective Finish, following label directions. Water based AND solvent base finishes are acceptable choices.
- Recommended finishes include VERSA Wipe On Poly
- Always spot test on an inconspicuous area to ensure satisfactory results.
