Why Hydro Tone ?

If you’ve used Mohawk, Behlen or other brands of aerosol wood finish toner, then you know how uneven aerosol toners spray. They can be difficult when it comes to color control, and most aerosol toners are highly toxic.  That inspired us to develop a more user friendly method and a better toner for anyone looking for an easier, safer, more predictable and cost effective wood furniture toner.

The concept of HYDRO TONE was originally developed in our finishing shop when we were looking for a better way for the amateur wood finisher to tone mid century modern walnut furniture, without the use of stain. It worked so incredibly fantastic, we realized that not only is it an amazing toner on raw walnut, but on all wood species and all styles and eras.

Product Description

HydroTone is built to apply easy, by wiping on with a dry, lint-free cloth, giving you total color control.  It’s a true water based polyurethane, tinted with metal complex wood dye and formulated to be wiped on, giving you a rich, deep color without the hassle and difficulty of spraying.

Product Use

HydroTone can be applied to raw wood, or over any wood stain, as long as the stain has thoroughly dried.  We apply it in light to medium coats, using a sponge or foam pad.  Once dry, you can repeat the process as many times as you wish to achieve the color and depth you desire. It’s also very useful when blending different wood tones thanks to its precise application. Hydro Tone is made using metal complex dyes, so they have vivid transparent color and possess excellent light fastness.  While Hydro Tone technically can be applied as a final finish, and doesn’t necessarily require a topcoat, we suggest applying a protective finish over Hydro Tone for more durability.
